WIC meeting highlights hydrogen progress at ArcelorMittal Belgium

The final WIC meeting of 2025, hosted at ArcelorMittal Belgium in Ghent, brought together more than 100 participants for a full day of exchange, learning and inspiration focused on industrial decarbonisation and hydrogen. The morning featured insights into ArcelorMittal’s RecHycle project presented by Philippe Alboort, introductions of new WIC members Cadmatic and Westfalen Gassen Nederland, and a financing perspective on hydrogen technologies by Hy24. Cluster members shared concrete progress, including OCAS’ new hydrogen lab, Denys’ hydrogen and CO₂ pipeline projects in Belgium and the Netherlands (such as Porthos and the Fluxys backbone), and Solhyd’s first hybrid solar–hydrogen park, highlighting advances in decentralized green hydrogen production. The afternoon concluded with an impressive, guided tour of the Ghent steel plant, underscoring ArcelorMittal Belgium’s leadership in sustainable steelmaking and the growing role of hydrogen in its pathway toward carbon-neutral steel by 2050.
