Air Products & Yara advance low-emission ammonia projects
Air Products and Yara International are in advanced negotiations to partner on a suite of low-emission ammonia projects in the U.S. and Saudi Arabia that leverage Air Products’ large-scale low-carbon hydrogen production and Yara’s global ammonia production and distribution network. At the centerpiece is the Louisiana Clean Energy Complex, designed to produce over 750 million scf/day of low-carbon hydrogen, capturing ~95 % of CO₂, with Air Products supplying ~80 % of that hydrogen under a 25-year offtake agreement to support the production of 2.8 million tonnes per year of low-carbon ammonia; Yara would later acquire ~25 % of the ammonia facilities and integrate the output into its global supply chain, with target final investment decisions by mid-2026 and completion by 2030. In addition, the NEOM Green Hydrogen Project in Saudi Arabia - already over 90 % complete and expected to start in 2027 - would see Air Products as the sole offtaker of up to 1.2 million t/y of renewable ammonia, with Yara expected to handle marketing and distribution in Europe. The collaboration is aimed at meeting growing demand for low-emission ammonia and scaling globally competitive supply chains.
