From Antwerp to Oman: Fluxys strengthens hydrogen and CO₂ networks

Not one, but no fewer than two hydrogen related updates from Fluxys came our way over the past two weeks.

Last week, the Belgian hydrogen operator signed a Cooperation Agreement with OQ Gas Networks (OQGN), the exclusive owner and operator of Oman’s natural gas transmission network. The agreement sets the stage for joint development of Oman’s future hydrogen transport infrastructure, with Fluxys planning to participate as a minority shareholder. This cooperation follows an earlier Memorandum of Understanding signed in September 2023, through which both parties committed to strategic collaboration on hydrogen and CO₂ networks in the Oman.

And this week, Fluxys has made another exciting hydrogen announcement. Together with Pipelink, and Air Liquide, Fluxys has kicked off the construction on a new CO₂ pipeline network in the Antwerp port area through the joint venture ‘Fluxys c-grid Antwerp. The pipeline should enable industrial players in and around the port to link up with underground CO₂ storage sites via the Antwerp@C Export Hub and other network connections. The first phase of construction is now underway and is scheduled for completion by the end of 2026. Future extensions of the network will be based on market demand and designed to integrate seamlessly with the broader Flemish CO₂ backbone and international infrastructure.
