Scaling hydrogen trucks in daily logistics operations at Colruyt Group

Colruyt Group and Scania are demonstrating the practical use of hydrogen fuel cell electric trucks (FCEVs) by integrating two prototype vehicles into day-to-day logistics operations as part of Scania’s Pilot Partner programme. As the first and only Belgian participant in the initiative, Colruyt Group is evaluating the operational performance of one of only around 20 Scania hydrogen trucks built worldwide under real-world conditions. The three-axle 6×2 tractor combines a 300 kW hydrogen fuel cell with a 400 kW electric powertrain, 56 kg of hydrogen storage at 700 bar, and a 356 kWh battery, enabling a driving range of up to 800 km and a maximum train weight of 50 tonnes. Designed for long-distance, heavy-duty transport, the truck also supports ultra-fast hydrogen refuelling and high-power battery charging, providing valuable insights into the role of hydrogen alongside battery-electric vehicles while advancing the commercial readiness of zero-emission freight transport.
