Hydrogen Economy & Skills for Heavy-Duty Mobility – A Showcase of Zero-Emission Transport
On 14 October, the legendary Spa-Francorchamps circuit became a European showcase for zero-emission heavy-duty mobility. Organized by Cluster TWEED, the ‘Hydrogen Economy & Skills for Heavy-Duty Mobility’ event brought together leading industrial players, public authorities, and training experts to accelerate the deployment of hydrogen in heavy transport. Industry pioneers such as Toyota, Hyundai, MAN, Colruyt, VDL, KEYOU, Haesaerts, and CMB.TECH demonstrated that hydrogen technology is already road-ready. Two years ago, the ‘collation of the willing’ (some 200 key hydrogen players) signed the ‘Francorchamps Hydrogen Initiative’ or a declaration of common interest for the development of a clean hydrogen economy at cross-boarder level. The program featured presentations on EU projects and addressed key challenges including infrastructure, vehicle costs, and regulation. Visitors witnessed the largest H₂ parade in Europe, featuring hydrogen trucks and cars from brands including VDL Toyota, VDL Colruyt, Hyundai, MAN, KEYOU, and CMB Tech driving on and around the circuit.
