First offshore green hydrogen production on an operational North Sea platform

The PosHYdon project has successfully produced green hydrogen for the first time on the operational Q13a-A offshore platform in the Dutch North Sea, marking a global milestone in offshore energy integration. Located approximately 13 km off the coast of Scheveningen, the fully electrified platform uses offshore wind power to convert seawater into demineralised water and subsequently into renewable hydrogen through electrolysis. As the world's first pilot to integrate offshore wind, hydrogen production, and natural gas production on an operational platform, PosHYdon is generating valuable operational data on the performance, safety, and flexibility of offshore hydrogen production under real-world conditions. The results will support the future large-scale deployment of offshore hydrogen systems and the reuse of existing offshore infrastructure as part of an integrated North Sea energy system.  

The PosHydon project is an initiative of TNO - who coordinates the project- and 13 other partners, among which Deme & Emerson.
