BASF Pioneers renewable ammonia production in Central Europe
BASF has become the first producer of renewable ammonia in Central Europe, marking a new milestone in sustainable chemical manufacturing. At its Ludwigshafen Verbund site, the company now produces two new grades - renewable ammonia and renewable ammonia solution 24.5% - by feeding renewable energy-derived hydrogen into its ammonia production process, thereby reducing reliance on natural gas.
The renewable hydrogen is integrated via a mass balance approach, allowing certified attribution of the renewable input while maintaining identical product specifications. Both new products are ISCC+ certified and can be used as drop-in replacements for conventional ammonia—available in standard bulk supply.
