Agfa and VITO team up on green hydrogen
On 8 July, Agfa and the Flemish research institute VITO formalized a long-term strategic partnership on green hydrogen technology. The agreement, signed in the presence of Flemish Minister-President Matthias Diependaele, builds on nearly two decades of collaboration around Agfa’s ZIRFON membranes for alkaline electrolysis. From lab bench to large-scale industry, Flemish innovation is clearly finding its way into the global hydrogen value chain.
The new facility in Mortsel, once more supported by the EU Innovation Fund, will open later this year and significantly ramp up ZIRFON production, with the potential to support up to 20 GW of energy per year and avoid around 15 million tonnes of CO₂ emissions.
