Yara Sluiskil starts Europe's largest industrial CCS operation in Zeeland

On 7 September, Yara Sluiskil - Europe’s largest ammonia and fertilizer plant - inaugurated its CCS facility in Zeeland. It can capture and liquefy up to 800,000 tonnes CO₂/year from ammonia production, which will be shipped to Norway and permanently stored 2600m beneath the seabed by Northern Lights. With the right framework conditions in place, the project is expected to capture and store around 12 million tons of CO₂ over the next 15 years, making a significant contribution to European CO₂ reduction targets.

The project is particularly important because it establishes the first complete cross-border value chain for capturing, transporting and permanently storing CO₂ (CCS).
