Transport via waterways gets even greener with “Green Deal Binnenvaart”

The Green Deal Binnenvaart is ready to start a new, green era for Flemish logistics. It is one of 16 Flemish Green Deals launched by the government to stimulate and strengthen sustainable initiatives through voluntary, ambitious agreements between companies, organizations and the government. However, it cannot do this alone. That is why the initiators of the Green Deal Binnenvaart, being De Vlaamse Waterweg nv, Department of Mobility and Public Works (DMOW), Port of Antwerp-Bruges, North Sea Port, the Federation of Belgian Inland Navigation, the Knowledge Centre for Inland Navigation Flanders and VIL, sought and found 78 other partners (like WaterstofNet) who would like to help make inland navigation greener.

During the launch event on June 23 at the Antwerp Port House, they demonstrated their willingness by signing the Green Deal for Inland Navigation. "The Green Deal should offer certainty to Flemish inland navigation entrepreneurs and become a guideline for policy in the short and medium term," said Flemish Minister of Mobility and Public Works Lydia Peeters.
