Port of Antwerp Bruges plans to build €250m hydrogen and ammonia export terminal in Namibia
The Port of Antwerp-Bruges is planning to build a €250m ($267m) hydrogen and ammonia export terminal at Namibia’s Port of Walvis Bay within three to five years. The storage, bunkering and export facility will be jointly owned with the state-owned Namibian Ports Authority (Namport), while Bloomberg reports a subsidiary of shipping firm MSC is in talks to operate it.
The privately owned Belgian port authority is also set to partner with Cleanergy — a joint venture between Belgium’s CMB.TECH and Namibian conglomerate Ohlthaver & List Group — and Namport to launch the first dual-fuel hydrogen-powered ship in Africa, a multifunctional port utility vessel.
