Luxembourg’s hydrogen valley moves from vision to reality
Luxembourg’s first Hydrogen Valley, LuxHyVal, has reached a major milestone with the final investment decision for its flagship green hydrogen facility, officially moving the project into the implementation phase. At the heart of the initiative is a 5 MW electrolyser powered by renewable electricity, which will produce green hydrogen for industrial applications and zero-emission mobility. Construction is set to begin in late 2026, with operations expected in 2027. The project will also support the deployment of 18 hydrogen fuel cell buses, helping to cut CO₂ emissions by around 5,000 tonnes annually while reducing reliance on imported fossil-based hydrogen. Bringing together 17 partners from industry, research and the public sector, LuxHyVal demonstrates how integrated Hydrogen Valleys are becoming a reality across Europe and strengthening the role of hydrogen in the energy transition. As part of the broader ValHyCon project (coordinated by WaterstofNet), the initiative contributes to the development of interconnected Hydrogen Valleys across Europe.
