HyMobility event highlights role of hydrogen trucks in Dutch logistics transition

The HyMobility Matchmaking Event in Utrecht on the 13th of March brought together transport companies, shippers, vehicle manufacturers and hydrogen suppliers to accelerate the deployment of hydrogen-powered heavy-duty transport in the Netherlands. Organised by HyMobility together with the Province of Utrecht, Deltalinqs and TLN, the event focused on building partnerships across the value chain through matchmaking sessions, presentations and hydrogen truck demonstrations from multiple manufacturers. Discussions highlighted hydrogen trucks as a complement to battery-electric transport, particularly in the context of severe grid congestion in the Netherlands, which limits large-scale electric truck charging. According to industry estimates presented at the event, replacing 1,500 diesel trucks with hydrogen trucks instead of battery-electric ones could free enough grid capacity to power around 130,000 homes. The gathering also underscored the sector’s growing momentum, with the HyMobility coalition aiming to deploy 1,500 hydrogen trucks and 50 refuelling stations by 2030, supported by Dutch subsidy schemes (SWIM) and increasing interest from logistics companies.
