Hydrogen: indispensable for the energy system of tomorrow
According to a new system-study by CE Delft commissioned by NLHydrogen, hydrogen will be vital for the Netherlands to reach climate neutrality by 2050. The study finds hydrogen helps reduce transition costs, ease peak loads on the electricity grid (saving billions in grid investment), preserve industrial activity, and strengthen energy security. It outlines two transition paths – an early scale-up versus a late sprint - and argues that delayed action risks higher costs and shortfalls in meeting climate goals. The authors call for an accelerated infrastructure build-out, clearer market regulation, de-risking of a national hydrogen network, and targeted R&D investments as essential policy moves.
