Gasunie and Fluxys advance hydrogen backbone between Belgium and the Netherlands

Gasunie and Fluxys have signed an agreement to jointly develop a cross-border hydrogen connection between the Netherlands and Belgium, marking a key step toward an integrated hydrogen market in Northwestern Europe. The project, led by Gasunie’s subsidiary Hynetwork and Fluxys hydrogen, aims to enable safe, reliable, and bidirectional hydrogen transport between both countries, connecting major industrial clusters and ports such as Antwerp, Rotterdam, and North Sea Port. Targeted for completion around 2030, the connection will form part of a broader effort to build an open, accessible hydrogen backbone across Northwestern Europe, supporting energy security, market integration, and the large-scale deployment of hydrogen in hard-to-abate sectors.
