From Duqm to Duisburg
Following closely on the heels of OQ and Vopak’s infrastructure partnership in Duqm, a new Joint Development Agreement (JDA) marks another milestone for the Omani port. Eleven major players—including Hydrom, OQ, Tata Steel Nederland, and Hynetwork—have joined forces to create what’s being called the world’s first liquid hydrogen import corridor. The corridor will stretch from the port of Duqm in Oman to the ports of Amsterdam and Duisburg, enabling commercial-scale imports of renewable liquid hydrogen compliant with RFNBO standards.
Key features include a central liquefaction and export terminal in Duqm, advanced zero boil-off shipping technology from ECOLOG, and integrated import and distribution facilities across the Netherlands and Germany. The project not only demonstrates the viability of large-scale hydrogen transport, but also tightens energy ties between Oman and Europe—formally sealed during a state visit by His Majesty the Sultan of Oman to the Netherlands.
