France, Spain and Portugal plan hydrogen and gas pipeline between Barcelona and Marseille

Spain, France and Portugal will build an undersea pipeline from Barcelona (Spain) to Marseilles (France). The pipeline is to transport first gas and then hydrogen. It will replace the MidCat gas pipeline planned since 2003 across the Pyrenees, which France was not in favor of.

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, his Portuguese counterpart Antonio Costa and French President Emmanuel Macron announced that the Green Energy Corridor, as the project will be called, will connect the Iberian Peninsula with France and the European energy market. "This is a pipeline for green hydrogen, but in a transitional phase also for gas, which the European energy market needs," Pedro Sanchez said.
