Flanders takes the next step towards CO₂ and hydrogen corridors
The Flemish Government has taken the next step toward developing strategic CO₂ and hydrogen pipeline corridors by initiating the spatial planning processes required to establish dedicated pipeline routes connecting the Port of Antwerp with Germany for hydrogen and linking Zeebrugge to the German border for CO₂ transport. Led by Fluxys, these corridors aim to close critical gaps in Flanders’ future energy infrastructure, enabling industrial decarbonisation, carbon capture and storage (CCS), and the large-scale transport of renewable hydrogen. The initiative also includes public consultations and the creation of a dedicated taskforce to accelerate infrastructure planning, reinforcing Flanders’ ambition to become a leading hub for clean energy and low-carbon industry in northwestern Europe.
