EXMAR signs up for historic first ammonia fuelled vessel

EXMAR has taken delivery of the world’s first oceangoing vessel equipped with a dual-fuel ammonia engine, marking a major milestone in the transition towards zero-carbon shipping. The vessel, designed to transport ammonia, can operate on both conventional fuel and ammonia, providing a practical pathway to reduce emissions while supporting the gradual scale-up of alternative marine fuels. As ammonia is produced from hydrogen and can be transported globally using existing infrastructure, it is widely regarded as one of the most promising hydrogen carriers for long-distance maritime transport. The delivery demonstrates that hydrogen-derived fuels are moving beyond pilot projects and into commercial shipping, bringing the maritime sector one step closer to achieving its decarbonisation goals.
