Everfuel’s HySynergy plant in Denmark pioneers grid-balancing green hydrogen production

Everfuel’s HySynergy facility in Fredericia, Denmark, has become the world’s first large-scale electrolyser plant to both stabilise the power grid and produce certified green hydrogen simultaneously, demonstrating a new role for hydrogen in energy systems beyond fuel supply. By automatically adjusting its electricity consumption in response to grid needs - reducing hydrogen production when supply is tight and increasing it when there’s surplus wind and solar - HySynergy provides balancing services to the Danish grid while continuously generating renewable hydrogen (RFNBO), showing that electrolytic hydrogen production can act as a flexible asset to support grid stability in systems with high shares of intermittent renewables. This milestone reflects a major step in integrating green hydrogen into broader energy infrastructures, underlining its value not only for decarbonising industry and transport but also for enabling resilient, climate-friendly electricity systems as Europe pursues its net-zero goals.
