European Commission opens call for strategic hydrogen infrastructure projects
The European Commission has launched a new call for hydrogen infrastructure, electrolyser and CO₂ projects seeking Project of Common Interest (PCI) or Project of Mutual Interest (PMI) status under the TEN-E Regulation. Open from 25 June to 30 September 2026, the call invites cross-border hydrogen projects to apply for inclusion in the 3rd Union list, expected to be adopted by the end of 2027. While not a funding call, obtaining PCI or PMI status provides significant advantages, including accelerated permitting procedures, improved regulatory treatment and greater political recognition as a strategic European energy infrastructure project. It also makes projects eligible to apply for future Connecting Europe Facility (CEF Energy) funding, supporting the further development of Europe's integrated hydrogen network.
