EU launches €600 million funding call for hydrogen and cross-border energy infrastructure
The European Commission, through CINEA, has launched a new €600 million call under the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) Energy programme to support key cross-border energy infrastructure projects across Europe, with a strong focus on hydrogen and decarbonisation technologies. The funding will support studies and construction works for Projects of Common Interest (PCIs) and Projects of Mutual Interest (PMIs) included in the EU’s second PCI/PMI list under the revised TEN-E Regulation. Eligible projects cover electricity networks, smart grids, CO₂ infrastructure, hydrogen pipelines and electrolysers, highlighting hydrogen’s growing role in strengthening Europe’s energy security, industrial competitiveness and climate neutrality ambitions.
The call is open until 30 September 2026 and forms part of the EU’s broader strategy to accelerate energy system integration, reduce energy costs and support the deployment of home-grown renewable energy solutions. In total, the updated PCI/PMI list includes 235 strategic infrastructure projects across Europe, including around 100 hydrogen and electrolyser initiatives. Selected projects benefit not only from EU financial support but also from accelerated permitting procedures and improved regulatory treatment. An online CEF Energy Info Day will take place on 18 May 2026 to explain the application and evaluation process.
