Emission-free (ad)venture: a trip around the world in a green hydrogen-powered airplane
Imagine it's the year 2028. The first non-stop flight around the world in a green hydrogen-powered airplane takes place.
It could soon become a reality! After the first successful circumnavigations of the globe in a balloon and, more recently, in a solar-powered aircraft, Swiss explorer Bertrand Piccard is unveiling his latest emission-free (ad)venture: a green hydrogen-powered airplane designed to fly non-stop around the Earth. ‘Climate Impulse’ plans to complete the first-ever non-stop round-the-world flight in a green hydrogen-powered airplane by 2028, with science company Syensqo as its primary partner.
After two years of research, development, and design, supported by Airbus, Daher, and Capgemini, and with the involvement of Ariane Group, the construction of the aircraft has officially begun. This process will take two years. Following another two years of testing, this aircraft will attempt to fly non-stop around the Equator.
