Daimler Truck and KEYOU partner to bring hydrogen combustion trucks to market
Daimler Truck and hydrogen engine specialist KEYOU have announced a strategic partnership to commercialise hydrogen internal combustion engine (H₂-ICE) trucks, with the first KEYOU HICE.40 based on the Mercedes-Benz Actros L scheduled for market launch in 2027. The 40-tonne truck will use a converted 12.8-litre Daimler engine, delivering up to 350 kW of power and a driving range of up to 650 km on 350-bar compressed hydrogen. By combining Daimler's existing vehicle platform with KEYOU's hydrogen combustion technology, the partners aim to offer a robust and cost-effective zero-tailpipe CO₂ solution alongside battery-electric and fuel-cell trucks. The collaboration is designed for large-scale deployment, leveraging existing production and service networks to accelerate the decarbonisation of heavy-duty road freight.
