Contribution from Innovation Fund for 7 Dutch and Belgian CO2 and hydrogen projects
At the beginning of the summer, the European Commission announced which projects could claim a contribution from the European Innovation Fund in this round. Of the 41 eligible projects, seven are from the Netherlands and Belgium.
The chosen projects fit into the categories "energy-intensive industry," "hydrogen," "renewable energy," and "production of components for energy storage and renewable energy." The following Dutch/Belgian hydrogen projects were granted:
- The H2Sines.Rdam project aims to demonstrate the potential of transporting liquid hydrogen between the Netherlands (Rotterdam) and Portugal (Sines).
- The Columbus project, also in Belgium, aims to avoid direct CO2 emissions from limestone production. The CO2 formed is converted with green hydrogen on an industrial scale into e-methane
- Uniper's hydrogen2Maasvlakte project can also count on a contribution from the Innovation Fund. Uniper wants to build a large electrolyser in the Port of Rotterdam.
- At the Zeeland Refinery at the North Sea Port in Flushing, TotalEnergies plans to build an electrolyser with a capacity of 264 MW, it could grow to 1 GW.
- Finally, in Belgium, AGFA can expect a contribution for the GIGA-SCALES project. This project aims to scale up so-called ZIRFON membranes for electrolysers, with high efficiency and energy density.
