Construction phase begins for Djewels green hydrogen project in Delfzijl, with Belgian technology

Power2X has officially approved the start of the construction phase for the Djewels green hydrogen project in Delfzijl, marking a major step forward for large-scale hydrogen production in the Netherlands. The 20 MW facility, developed following Power2X’s acquisition of HyCC earlier this year, will use advanced pressurised alkaline electrolysis technology supplied by Belgian company John Cockerill and engineered by Rely, the joint venture between Technip Energies and John Cockerill, as EPC contractor and integrator. Once operational in 2028, the plant is expected to produce approximately 2,000 tonnes of green hydrogen annually for industrial users in the region. Located at Chemical Park Delfzijl and directly connected to Nobian’s facilities, Djewels will demonstrate innovative high-pressure hydrogen production technology designed to improve efficiency and reduce the footprint and cost of future large-scale electrolyser projects. Supported by regional, national and European funding programmes, the project reinforces the Netherlands’ ambition to accelerate industrial decarbonisation, strengthen energy resilience and establish itself as a leading European hydrogen hub.
