Buckle up! BMW shifts gears further towards hydrogen

There’s more exciting news from the world of hydrogen cars: BMW has announced it will start series production of hydrogen-powered vehicles in 2028. With this step, one of the world’s largest car manufacturers sends a strong signal that hydrogen will play a lasting role alongside battery-electric mobility.

Preparations are already moving forward. The first prototypes of BMW’s next-generation fuel cell system are being developed, supported by dedicated hydrogen competence centers in Munich and Steyr. BMW’s plant in Steyr will produce the third generation of fuel cell systems, while the technology hub in Landshut will deliver key components.
