BMW iX5 Hydrogen pilot fleet launched in Antwerp

BMW previously showed the iX5 Hydrogen at the IAA Mobility 2021 in Munich. This car was recently on display in the port of Antwerp. With a test fleet of about 100 cars, BMW wants to further explore the hydrogen possibilities.

As early as 2020, BMW explored the hydrogen market with the BMW i Hydrogen NEXT concept car. Based on this concept car, the iX5 Hydrogen was presented in 2021. The BMW iX5 Hydrogen combines fuel cell technology with a fifth-generation BMW eDrive. The fuel cell provides an electrical output of 125 kW/170 hp. The electric motor comes from the BMW iX and charges the battery during coasting or braking. The energy stored in this battery is also used for particularly sporty driving maneuvers. It can deliver up to 275 kW/374 hp to the wheels.

In Antwerp, the press was recently able to get acquainted with the car and also take it for a test drive. The fast refueling of the car could also be demonstrated, thanks to CMB 's hydrogen filling station. In about 5 minutes the car was full of fuel and it had a range of about 600 km again
