Hydrogen Industry Cluster grows to over 70 members with 12 additional companies

Since the end of last year, the Hydrogen Industry Cluster (Waterstof Industrie Cluster or WIC) grew to over 70 players with 12 new members. The WIC is an industrial partnership in the field of hydrogen coordinated by WaterstofNet. The cluster brings together companies, authorities and knowledge institutions that want to cooperate on hydrogen. We would like to introduce Solvay, Alstom, Altran, Perpetum Energy, Sirris, HIMA, Covess, Vollenhoven Olie Groep, Everfuel, G&V Energy Group, Plug Power and John Cockerill.

Solvay is a Belgian multinational company active in chemicals and plastics. The company needs H2 for the production of hydrogen peroxide, among other things, and is betting on hydrogen technology through the Aquivion ionomers, for example.

Alstom is a multinational company that is mainly active in the field of rail transport. In the hydrogen field, it has a proven track record with the hydrogen trains 'Coradia iLint' in Germany and the Netherlands.

Altran, as Engineering and R&D brand of the Capgemini group, is the product development partner of all major European automotive OEMs, aerospace OEMs, energy sector leaders and major players in the field of maritime OEMs in France, Spain and Italy. A number of technologies and products where hydrogen is an element are already co-developed by Altran.

Perpetum Energy is an installer of large-scale solar panel installations and wind energy active in Belgium, the Netherlands and Taiwan. Perpetum is preparing for the production of green hydrogen for various projects such as hydrogen for industrial use, mobility and storage.

Sirris is the collective center of the Belgian technological industry. Sirris has already supported various companies in hydrogen developments and it is currently actively looking at how it can support the Belgian value chain (even better) within an accelerating hydrogen market.

As a German family company, HIMA is specialized in safety PLCs and related services. For hydrogen, the company offers a leak detection system to detect leaks in a pipeline.

Covess is a manufacturer of composite pressure vessels. A type V hydrogen tank for passenger cars was developed a few years ago. Covess plans to certify and produce it in the near future.

Vollenhoven Olie Group is a Tilburg family business that operates in the lubricants and fuels sector. It has over 90 filling stations in the southern part of the Netherlands. Since it is strongly committed to alternative fuels, it is actively looking at the realization of a hydrogen filling station.

Everfuel is an ambitious Danish start-up and a listed supplier of green hydrogen. Everfuel has developed an innovative, efficient and scalable value chain in which hydrogen production, distribution and refuelling stations are integrated and linked in a smart way.

G&V Energy Group is a young and dynamic Belgian growth company active in the filling station market. It is the largest independent player in the Belgian market and operates more than 200 filling stations. In the field of hydrogen they are looking at the realization and/or exploitation of hydrogen filling stations for both cars and trucks.

Plug Power has been delivering hydrogen and fuel cell solutions in Europe for more than 10 years to industrialists, logistics customers and car manufacturers. Furthermore, Plug Power Europe develops a complete portfolio of hydrogen solutions: fuel cells for hydrogen mobility and stationary solutions, electrolysers for Power-to-Gas, Power-to-Mobility and Power-to-Industry.

John Cockerill is a mechanical engineering group. It produces machinery for steel mills, industrial heat recovery equipment and boilers, as well as shunting locomotives. John Cockerill is focusing more and more on green hydrogen production through alkaline electrolysis systems for various applications.

In short, each one of them is a valuable player in further developing the hydrogen story in Belgium and the Netherlands. The WIC is involved in networking, knowledge exchange, project identification and acts as a platform for various authorities.

In order to support the growing cluster even better, WaterstofNet now has four WIC managers. Are you also interested in joining the cluster? Contact them or fill in this form!
