Fluxys and Colruyt get permit for first hydrogen plant in Belgium

The province of West Flanders has granted the environmental permit for hydrogen plant Hyoffwind in Zeebrugge. That news comes from the newsletter Flows. Initiators Group Colruyt and Fluxys are now close to building Belgium's first industrial hydrogen power plant. Hyoffwind is being built in the Barlenhuisstraat in Zeebrugge's eastern inner port. There, Fluxys has land in concession from the port authority.

That approval marks a milestone for Belgium's energy transition. Hyoffwind will be the country's very first industrial-scale hydrogen (power-to-gas) power plant. The environmental permit was requested by wind energy producer Virya Energy (Colruyt Group) and gas grid operator Fluxys. The plant should convert electricity from partners Parkwind and Eoly Energy into green hydrogen gas for the natural gas grid, industrial users at home abroad and for balancing Elia's electricity grid.
