De Vlaamse Waterweg
The Vlaamse Waterweg is an external independent agency of the Flemish government that manages all navigable waterways in Flanders. The Vlaamse Waterweg wants to promote and strengthen transport via inland shipping, is responsible for maintenance and infrastructure works along the waterways, ensures water management and increases the attractiveness of the waterways for recreation, tourism and nature experience. It also promotes sustainability, looking at alternative propulsion and fuels such as hydrogen via the greening of inland shipping (demo project own vessel and realizing greening of the Belgian fleet of independent inland shipping entrepreneurs), research into possible supply of hydrogen or multipurpose energy hubs located along the waterways and closing gaps in existing legislation.
